Or, how I accidentally bought an autographed copy of Tomb of the Cybermen.

I recently acquired a DVD drive and decided I was a bit frustrated with streaming as a model and would like to own more DVDs. Also I was at the record store in my town, and they'd done me a favor for free, so I thought I ought to spend some money there. So I went to their used DVD section, they had some Classic Who DVDs, and I picked out Tomb of the Cybermen. It was special edition and I thought it would be fun to watch the commentaries. It wasn't specially advertised or anything and it was the same price as the other DVDs.

It was in one of those shiny anti-theft cases, so I couldn't see it particularly well, and when they took it out of the case and I bought it, I just stuck it in my bag. But later when I got out of the shop I had a look at it and:

copy of 'Tomb of the Cybermen' apparently signed by Frazer Hines

I wasn't sure, and it was fairly illegible, but it certainly looked like an autograph, and a friend on Discord looked up Frazer Hines' autograph and said it looked the same.

So, as one does, I tweeted about it:

Tweets. Classicist on Classic Who: "I'm terrible at identifying autographs but a friend says it certainly looks like @WhoFrazer's" Frazer Hines: "Yep that's me"

Yep that's him!

Aw, that's very cool!

I have a secondhand copy of the target The Web of Fear that someone had signed at the start, and I just didn't look at it (assuming it was like "To Paul, love Uncle whatever" etc. but when I did one day, I realised that it was signed by Tom in the 1970s, when he was playing the Doctor. I don't know why someone wanted him to sign a Second Doctor book, but it looks like his signature all right.

BUt the magic of twitter goes even further!! 0_o
