I just wanted to say, because it's so easy to lose things on tumblr, that I get exactly what you mean about validating the bits people have tried to write off. Ever since I made it online people have been making people who love the 80s feel like second class citizens in classic Who. And then New Who comes along and their fans keep telling us that no classic who matters, that RTD created Who.
So, yeah. This was a nice thing to have! (I wonder what NW only fans made of it, tbh; some of those callbacks are obscure enough.)
And also that you're the only other person I've seen who also noted how wrong it was to have Seven and Ace not touching. I mean, Tegan and Five actually touch way more than people think, but Sylvester and Sophie are just never not! It was strange, even in the midst of appreciating having them there.
I do wonder! As far as I can tell, New Who fans were mainly preoccupied with 13 and Yaz and Dhawan!Master, which makes sense. :) Maybe some people will decide to try Classic.
Personally I watched and enjoyed "The Five-ish Doctors Reboot" years before I even considered watching Classic, so you never know! (Sylvester was my favorite then. I'm a very consistent woman.)

Awww! <3 You never know indeed, then.
I watch a couple of reactors who've been going through Classic Who and it was interesting to see that one of them, who's only reached Four and Sarah Jane so far was immediately touched by the Five-Tegan scene particularly even without having any idea of context. (Their favourites so far remain the original Team TARDIS, preferably with Vicki rather than Susan, so Ian's appearance was of course the most emotional moment, but it was interesting to see that she got the emotion of companion reunited with their Doctor without needing context. The other one didn't do a reaction, because she hasn't been well, but she's now very curious (she's just finished s22 and enjoyed it a lot) because she hadn't known Bonnie Langford would be in DW, and she's looking forward to meeting Ace, because she thought she seemed really cool.)
