lurking_latinist: Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor in Vervoids with text reading "there's an audiotape that will explain everything" (audiotape that will explain everything)

Dear Spacer,

Thank you so much for signing up to write/draw/vid something for our shared fandom. I have what I am afraid may be an overwhelming amount of things here, but I have tried to organize it so that you can easily find what we matched on, and I hope you will find some information here that's useful to you. I truly do see prompts as a springboard rather than a checklist, so I hope that (after DNWs) you pay exactly as much attention to my prompts as is necessary for *you* to create a story that you love! I can't wait to see what you come up with.

I have the setting to receive gifts on, and I welcome treats in any format should anyone feel inspired!

DNW: sexual content, rating over T for any reason, focus on unrequested ships.

General fic likes: hurt/comfort, travel & visiting interesting (including imaginary) places, the Doctor (or the Doctor/Romana) trying human things, the Doctor being willing to go to great lengths for companions, moral dilemmas/conflicting priorities, how one character responds when they think the other is dead, 'everything is happy and nothing hurts', 'everything hurts a little bit but still we've got each other,' stories with historical settings, as well as really alien aliens.

I also like stories where platonic pairings go through typical shipping tropes (mistaken for a couple, accidental marriage, only one bed, etc.) and navigate those situations in their own unique ways, ultimately reaffirming how much they value their relationship the way it is (i.e. not ending up as a romantic or sexual pairing).

General art likes: portraits with symbolism, characters doing things (anything from an action scene to playing a board game!), awesome clothes, alien landscapes and culture, historical fashion, headcanons about the appearance of audio-only characters (I love when they’re drawn looking like their actors and I love when they’re drawn completely different), abstraction, unconventional materials (don’t feel obligated to include these last two, but don’t be afraid to!)

The length of the prompt doesn’t reflect how much I want the ship; if anything, it reflects how often I’ve requested it before! My prompts tend to accrete.

Worldbuilding: Time Lord Political Culture (DW 1963)
Worldbuilding: Public Perception of the Doctor on Gallifrey (DW 1963)

Worldbuilding requests: give me alllllll your headcanons! I do like the worldbuilding of the Gallifrey audio series, as well as Lungbarrow and the looms hypothesis, but I realize aspects of these conflict with each other and I'm totally okay if your story conflicts with one or both of them (including if you choose to ignore them completely and just go with the TV show). Feel free to take bits and pieces of canon and your own ideas and cook them all down into a delicious canon soup. However, for any of these worldbuilding requests, I would be equally happy to receive either a story or something in the format of in-universe meta (e.g. a Gallifreyan news report on the Doctor or an excerpt from a history of Gallifrey--or whatever you come up with).

Relationship: Peri Brown & Sixth Doctor (DW 1963)
Relationship: Melanie Bush & Sixth Doctor (DW 1963)

I really love Six, with all his prickly edges, and I love his relationships with both his TV companions. Either of the TV companions getting to use the special skills we never saw much of on TV (Peri's interest in botany, Mel's programming abilities) would be really awesome.

For Six & Peri, one thing I'd be interested in is a story set soon after the Doctor's regeneration, while he's still suffering from its effects and calling her by the wrong name and all that. How do they learn to cope with each other? How do they reach the much stabler relationship we see by the beginning of S23? (A story set in that much stabler period would also be welcome, of course!) What I love about Six and Peri's relationship--and this is partly reading into the show, but a lot of it is visible in the actors' choices if not always the actual writing--is how it can be tumultuous, needy, and obsessive, yet they also do really, truly love each other. He wins her trust back when it's incredibly hard, and he really does adore her even when he tries not to show it. (And he often doesn't try: he orbits her like a planet.) She sees the hero in him as well as the insecure, rootless person who wants somewhere to feel safe. By the time they've been together a while, they've developed a relationship where they know they can be grumpy at each other, he can snap and she can sulk, because they've seen the worst of each other and faced it down together. I also really love how domestic they can be--it seems like they spend the first twenty minutes of each story just pottering around the TARDIS fussing at each other.

If it comes up, you can assume that Peri died in Mindwarp, that she ends up married to King Yrcanos, or some other option, or that nobody knows for sure. However, if her relationship with Yrcanos comes up, I would like it to be portrayed as more or less positive, even if it's weird.

For Six & Mel, I'd love to see them travelling with a third companion for a bit, or an outsider's perspective on them--they really are such an odd couple! They clearly work so well together, so what makes their relationship tick? Since we meet them in medias res, I'd love to see something about Mel getting to know the Doctor--maybe finding out about some of the more troubling aspects of his past and deciding what she wants to do about that. In general I'm intrigued by the aspect of their relationship in which Mel seems to think the Doctor needs a lot of looking after--she's very "I can fix him" (although I'd appreciate if you could just avoid the whole dieting/exercise/carrot juice thing). I think she likes feeling like he needs her, and I think he sort of likes being looked after and fussed at--it's how he knows she cares!

Relationship: Melanie Bush & The Valeyard (DW 1963)
I'd be really interested in exploring their relationship either within Trial of a Time Lord--for instance, what about a canon divergence AU where they have to work together for some reason?--or before/after. In the books it's hinted that Six avoided taking actions which Seven later thought were necessary because he was afraid of starting the path to becoming the Valeyard, and while I am by no means asking you to stick to (or use at all) book canon, this could be an interesting prompt: how does Mel react to this fear of the Doctor's, especially if they then encounter the Valeyard himself again? It would also be interesting to see the Valeyard's perspective on encountering a companion of whom he presumably has quite a few memories.

Relationship: Seventh Doctor (DW63) & Ace McShane (DW63)
For Seven and Ace, anything that digs into their relationship--whether it explores their insecurities or uncertainties about each other, or shows how beautifully they work as a team. I like the idea that Ace is in some ways as much of a mystery to the Doctor as he is to her--not because of Fenric, just herself--and that he puts a lot of thought and effort into trying to understand what makes her tick. The teacher-apprentice aspect of their dynamic fascinates me. Does Ace gradually realize that the Doctor is training her, specifically, to do what he does--perhaps when he's gone, whatever that might mean? I think this is why I like hurt/comfort with Seven so much--it's seeing Ace having to be the one who takes care of him, seeing the man who has a finger in every pie and is always one step ahead (although rarely more than one) being forced to take a less active role and trust him. But that dynamic of theirs also works beautifully in fluffy, action-y, mystery, and other kinds of stories! Really, if it feels like Seven & Ace, you can't go wrong.

Relationship: Third Doctor (DW63) & The Master (Delgado) (DW63)
I'm fascinated with the weird obsessive enemies-friends-rivals-foils thing these two have going on, and I want more of it. I think about what Missy said hundreds of years and several regenerations later--"a friendship older and more complex than your civilization"--and about the idea of Time Lord friendships being as intense and consuming as humans tend to think of romantic relationships, and therefore equally explosive when they go wrong. I tend to think the Doctor and the Master were both fairly amoral young wanderers when they left Gallifrey, and that's who the Master is expecting to find when he comes to Earth--he has no idea the Doctor has had character development. And maybe the Doctor isn't 100% sure he wants to keep the character development, if the alternative is having his best friend back and a working TARDIS, to boot. I'm really interested in a story about a bond of friendship that doesn't go away just because they're on opposite sides, and that has both corrupting and redeeming potential for both of them.

I would prefer it to be set before the Doctor gets control of the TARDIS back, unless you have a really specific idea for something set later. Feel free to include or omit the UNIT crew as you prefer. Canon divergence AUs are fine.

Relationship: Sixth Doctor (DW 1963)/River Song (DW 2005)
I listened to The Diary of River Song season 2 and now I ship them. I love how they’re both such passionate, dramatic, emotional people, and they create this kind of beautiful harmony of intensity. A missing scene from their audio? An AU where they spend a longer time together? Another first meeting? (They’ve had so many…) Don’t feel the need to explain and justify how it fits into their timelines, especially at this length, unless you want to. Amnesia lipstick covers a multitude of paradoxes.

I once said of Six and River that I just want them to be able to settle down and have lots of extremely curly-haired children. You don't have to go quite that far (although you can! I opt into babies and kids for this!), but one thing I want for them is the opportunity to be soft and a bit silly. So much goes wrong for both of them, and in their one audio together they manage to be SO romantic, and I want them to get to do cute fluffy things. Probably with angsty undertones, but hey, it's River. Cute fluffy things where they both know it can't last forever is the vibe I'm feeling. Or else romance in the midst of the action-adventure that neither of them seems to be able to avoid. Or let them have their heads and create loads of the high drama they both gravitate towards. Anything romantic with them will make me happy!

Relationship: Irving Braxiatel (Gallifrey Audios) & Susan Foreman (DW 1963)
Please dump all of your Gallifreyan family headcanons on me! Regardless of what they are, I love them all. I would love to see this relationship be complicated but not all bad, whether it's a young Susan on Gallifrey or perhaps Brax (re?)connecting with her later in her life. I can't think he would understand or approve of her choices, nor the Doctor's choices regarding her, but he might learn to respect her for who she is. I think she might take after him a bit, actually, in personality (which would not necessarily help their relationship...).

Relationship: Third Doctor (DW 1963)/River Song (DW 2005)
I haven't thought about this that much, but I saw it in the tagset and now I'm intrigued! I think it would be great to set it while the Doctor is earthbound at UNIT. The Doctor came and took River on nights out when she was in Stormcage; maybe she's returning the favor while he's serving his time? UNIT's POV would be really fun, too--what would the canteen gossip be if the Doctor was suddenly going around with a beautiful wife no one had ever seen or heard of before? (As I said in my Six/River request, please don't worry about how this fits into everyone's timeline unless you want to or it's important to the story you choose to write. I'm totally fine with you just handwaving and saying "he forgot later on." It was probably Eight. XD)

Relationship: Sixth Doctor/Charley Pollard (DW BFA)
Relationship: Sixth Doctor & Charley Pollard (DW BFA)

Hmm, how about a quiet day without a crisis? What would they do with a little time off (and how would they manage to get into mischief anyway)? For the Charley/Six request, I'd be really down for some complicated yearning. She is or was in love with him but not him him; he feels drawn to her but doesn't understand why. Want to unpack that? Go right ahead! (Want to unpack that in a platonic, ampersand-ish way? Go right ahead with that too!) I’d also love to see them go through some fun tropes, but somehow I feel they’d find a way to make them angsty too. (Fake/accidental marriage… the lying, the inability to communicate their real feelings….) I love how strange their relationship is, but they're both quite strange people at this point, so it... kind of works? I'd also be down for alternate ending/fixit fic where Charley tells him her secret in a different way, or where they meet again after their canon ending. *cries buckets* All my general likes are a great fit for them!

Relationship: Sixth Doctor & Evelyn Smythe (DW BFA)
If you are familiar with academia as a setting and want to set a story in Evelyn's workplace or an outer space equivalent, that's definitely one thing I would enjoy! (I'm in academia as well, and also in a humanities field, so I do love when Evelyn talks about her work.) Or a historical setting where she can use her expertise! I also think Six & Evelyn are a fantastic fit for my “platonic pairings doing shipping tropes but staying platonic” thing. I love the quiet tenderness of their relationship, and how it’s kind of a respite for both of them–Six after his tumultuous friendship with Peri and the trauma of how that ended, Evelyn having been divorced and now feeling unwanted by her academic community–here is a partnership where they can both feel wanted and valued and safe. They don’t always have to say that out loud, but they so easily can when they need to.

Relationship: Second Doctor & Charley Pollard (DW BFA)
OK hear me out. I’m just so curious about what their personalities would be like together! Couple of possible scenarios: what would an AU with Two in Storm Warning be like? No need to explain where exactly it fits in his timeline or anything. I just feel like he and Charley would work together so well and have so much fun. Or alternatively–what if in Season 6B, when he’s working for the CIA, the Doctor is sent to find and deal with a girl who shouldn’t exist, only to find that she’s travelling (or used to travel) with one of his future selves, and turning her in is a lot harder than he expected….

Relationship: Irving Braxiatel & Sixth Doctor (DW BFA)
Six’s intense reluctance to ask for Brax’s help in “The 100 Days of the Doctor” made me very much want to see them having to work together. Six doesn’t cope well with Gallifrey, Brax is Gallifrey. Six will be playing the role of the Disreputable Renegade even more than he actually is, just to scandalize Brax. They could meet at some intergalactic summit where Brax is a delegate and Six is foiling a plot. Or what if Brax gets involved in the events of Trial of a Time Lord? After all, the family honor could be at stake…. Feel free to include any or none of Six’s companions.

Relationship: Constance Clarke & Sixth Doctor & Philippa "Flip" Jackson (DW BFA)
Such an adorable team, with so little fic! They deserve all the fun cracky tropes, soft fluffy moments, and thoughtful character exploration–bring it on! I especially love Flip and Constance's adorable friendship with its big sister & little sister vibes. I would love to see a story that uses each of their strengths, especially one where Flip gets to shine and impress everybody--she's more than just the little cute one!

Worldbuilding: The Doctor's half-human heritage (DW 1996)
Worldbuilding: Differences between Time Lord and human physiology (DW 1996)

Headcanons! Cut bits of worldbuilding from early drafts of the script! Totally making stuff up! I'll eat up any of it, the weirder the better. (My attitude towards Doctor backstories is that all of them are true, especially the incompatible ones.) I tend to think a half-human Doctor would have some quite complicated feelings about it, especially if Time Lord society frowns on non-Gallifreyans.

Relationship: Seventh Doctor & Grace Holloway (DW 1996)
Again, I saw this in the tagset and got curious! An AU where the Doctor doesn't regenerate so quickly? An exploration of the really quite bad mistake she makes when he tries to refuse anaesthesia and she doesn't listen? (I do like stories that take a moment in canon that was probably just careless writing and try to make it make character sense.) Or perhaps earlier Seven meets later Grace, and his time-sense allows him to tell that this is the person who will kill him, and he's trying to work out how in the heck that would happen?
